Boycott Internet Poker?

Yes.

It makes perfect sense. Will people actually do it? I doubt it...

It's time to make the internet poker companies that have made BILLIONS over the last few years stand up for their U.S. players.

Boycott Internet poker for 3 days in February:

From Midnight on February 8th (EST) through Midnight on Sunday February 11 (PST), do not play any internet poker.

Do it.

Poker after Dark week 4

So after the worse week of poker tv ever aired (The Champions week feat. Moneymaker, Gold, Chan, Brunson, Mortenson and Ferguson), poker after dark finally got their act together and is having a great week. The table is classic. Sam Farha, Tony G, Mike Matusow, Phil Hellmuth, Phil Ivey, and Andy Bloch. These guys are hilarious and Sammy is fantastic. I can watch that guy play all day. He doesn't play ABC poker or as I like to call it by another 3 letter acroynm "NBA poker". Ivey is his quiet grumpy self with his I'd rather be in the 9th Ring of Hell look. He looks like it is an inconvenience being there.

Great hand.

Sammy has 75 of spades, Matusow A9 of hearts, and Ivey with pocket 6's (spades, red 6). Flop comes 986 2 spades. Sammy flops the straight, Mike TPTK, and Ivey bottom set. Ivey bets, Sammy raises and Mike reraises. Ivey pushes all in and Sammy calls, Mike folds. Sammy is ahead. Turn comes a Queen and the river is a Queen. Sick beat!!! Sammy crippled but hangs around till he makes a bad call against Ivey for all of his chips. Ivey chip leader. Hellmuth playing like a donkey and Tony G hardly playing. The players are talking which is great compared to last week. I've heard that week 5 which is next week is supposed to the best one filmed so far. We shall see.

Luck Sucks

It sucks.

My luck, to be more specific, sucks.

Which begs the question... if I flop top pair and move all-in only to lose to a runner-runner straight and nobody is around to witness it but the entire table and also Stewman, does it make a sound?

Yes. It does.

It sounds like, "Here it comes... here it comes... THERE IT IS!! UN-FUCKING-BELIEVABLE!!! Runner-runner straight... DID YOU SEE THAT SHIT!?! What a FUCKING DONKEY!!! WHY ME!?!?! WHYYYYYYY!?!?!"

As you can see, it was another typical night on Poker Stars.

Oh wait. I almost forgot! I did get lucky once... I was short stack and picked up AQ on the button and moved all-in only to get called by AK. And I flopped a Queen!!

Oh but I forgot... A King hit the turn. And I lost.

And then there was the time i picked up KK, raised it SIX TIMES THE BIG BLIND and got 6 callers!!

Think I won?

NO WAY!!!

You may wonder... what was the winning hand? A-4 offsuit, of course!

I am getting very aggravated. I'm down more than $600 on Stars since I first deposited money 4 months ago... after winning more than $14,000 in Party the last 18 months of it's existence.

On a side note... there is some good news...

I found out today that I love the A&E show "Gene Simmons' Family Jewels".

Yay.

Goodbye Online poker

So I am done with online poker and seriously maybe for good or at least for a long time. I've come to the realization that I'm not really having all that much fun playing on-line and since the demise of Party Poker, Poker Stars has yet to change my mind. I actually don't care for Poker Stars. I found Party Poker and Poker Room much better sites but unfortunately neither allow US players. I'm not quitting because I'm a losing player or I feel I can't beat the game. I'm only down under $400 overall online for the past year with most of that being at Poker Stars. Not a significant amount by any means.

When I have money in my account I find myself addicted to playing even though I'm not having that much fun. Why this is I'm not completely sure. I stay holed up in my room and don't see sunlight which is not a good thing. Some say that the play at Poker Stars is the best on-line and I'm not one to disagree even though I've only played on 4 sites. However, since the legislation I feel the play at Poker Stars has deteriorated. This is not a reason for me quitting though because you would think it would be easier to make money. After my recent stretch of playing this past few weeks, I just realized I wasted way to much time for something I wasn't enjoying. Live ring games and tournaments are much more enjoyable for me. Since my bankroll can't support buying into larger on-line tournaments and I have no luck satelliting my way into them, I'd rather save my money to take shots at live large buy-in tourneys where I feel my chances at a significant cash are better and will have much more fun. Low limit ring games on line are a joke and I refuse to play them anymore. Only live ring games in my future.

So after 13 months of on-line play I say adios for now. I know I will be back but probably not till later this year. I have decided to try everything possible to qualify for the Aussie Millions next year after seeing the way FTP treats its qualifiers. Never played on FTP so that will be my next destination if on-line poker is still an option in 8 to 10 months.

Next month I will be in Rincon trying to repeat my final table performance last year in the last chance tourney. Don't know about the WSOP this year. I'll definitely drive out to check it out but not sure if I'll try to play in an event this year. With 55 events though, I'll have plenty of opportunities.

If I ever needed an all in one device I would buy the IPhone

After watching this video on one of my favorite blogs (Yes I'm a nerd) I would buy this device if I ever wanted a phone that contained a camera, pda, mp3 player and storage capabilities. Too bad I probably never will.

So after returning from the Suns game and typing up my previous post, I thought I play the last $4 in my account. This was my final hand. What a cold deck. You all have to agree that I had some shitty luck today.

maradona2121 is the biggest Donkey on PokerStars

At least in the low limit LHE arena...or maybe it is just me. This guy took over $20 off of me playing like a donkey and beating me on the river it seemed every time. In reality maybe I am the big donkey. I'm going to quit PS once I unlock my bonus. Tired of this BS on this site and I can't seem to cash in SNG's also.

Hand one which set the stage. This guy was raising all the time pre flop with crap and I always seemed to flop top pair against him. River saved him and we chopped.

Trip report

So as NBA previously stated I got into town Friday afternoon and we headed to Pechanga to play in the 75+15 10k guranteed tournament. 141 players and I busted out in approximately 48th place. I built my stack up to 9k early (start with 3k) by flopping a set of 2's on a jack high board and a guy going all in with QQ. He didn't raise pre-flop. I was in the sb with the 22. A orbit later I raised the UTG player with AA up to 1500. Folded to button who went all in for 1100 and the utg player called 900 more. Flop came Q2Q and I bet 1k which was enough to put UTG all-in and he folded claiming a pocket pair. The all in player had KK and my AA held up. After that I just went card dead picking up a few pots with flop bets and a couple pre-flop raises. I got pushed off of KQ twice when I opened the pot and then my 2nd to final hand. Folded to me in cutoff and I have 88. I have 2200 left and the blinds are at 300/600. I push all in and am called instantly by the button. He flips over KK and I don't catch up. Left with one chip and out 2 hands later. I did lose a last longer bet with NBA so I bought him dinner. First time I lost a last longer bet with him. Of course we didn't have one for our next tournament on Sunday and I lasted longer.

Ring games were a joke finishing down $189. First night dropped $200 in about 2 hours. I didn't win a single hand...I think that may have been a first for me. AA cracked by both Q9 and 24. Lost main and side pot. RIDONKULOUS!!

I liked to give props to Ms. NBA who sat down at the 2-4 table for the very first time and proceeded to win about $100. Great job.

Well back in AZ sick as a dog and on antibiotics. Playing a little on the nbc heads up site. Haven't decidied if I will give trying to qualify for the 1 seat a serious chance. I presume I'd have to play a lot to get my rating high and don't know if I have or want to give the time. So far played 12 games HU and my record is 8-4. Bad and very tentative play on the site. I got a guy to call my all in on the flop of 862. I raised pf with AK and he calls my all in with 105 and spikes a 10 on the turn. That's the type of play. So far holding up most of the time.

Newsflash: AK does not beat AQ and Stewman owes NBA dinner... AGAIN!

Stewman flew in late yesterday afternoon and after dropping his bags off at the house we headed out to Pechanga for the 6:30 $10k guaranteed. 141 players entered and thanks to Pechanga's extremely ridiculous payout structure, only 7% of players would make the money.

I won the first pot of the day when I raised in EP with KJ, got two callers, hit my K on the flop and took it down uncontested. I knew it was going to be a good day.

A little later I picked up 88 in MP and raised to 3 x the BB and got 3 callers. I hit my set on the flop and bet out only about 1/4th of the pot and got one caller. The turn brought a straight draw so I jammed. The guy thought and thought and said, "I think you missed" but folded anyway.

A few hands later I pick up AQ from the SB with 2 limpers ahead of me and make the stupid decision to raise. The BB and both limpers call and the flop comes K-Q-x. I check and so do the other 3. The turn brings a harmless 2 and I bet out half the pot. The BB raises me all in (another 2100) and I have to call. I know I'm beat and when he flips over AK I lose half my stack.

I play very conservatively for the next hour or so, picking up pots with little resistance. Stewman approaches me after the first break to tell me he's doing well sitting at about 9k in chips. I'm happy for him, but I know my luck is about to change.

I pick up 33 in LP and limp with 1 caller ahead of me. Both blinds play and the flop comes A-2-4. It's checked around and I take a stab at it betting about 1/3rd of the pot. The SB then pushes all-in and it's folded back to me. It costs me exactly 1/2 of my chips to call it off and reluctantly I do. I announce that I'm making the worst call in the history of poker but get lucky when the turn brings me the 5 for the straight.

About 3 hands later I pick up 1010 in MP. The guy sitting to my right bumps it to 3 x the BB and I quickly call. The flop comes down J high with two clubs. He bets out and I glance back at my 1010 and see no club. I tell him I know I'm beat and I fold face up. He later tells me he had KK.

In the next round, the same guy raises it to 3 x the BB and I look down at 1010 again. I call and this time the flop comes down K high. He checks and I check behind. When the turn is a blank, he checks again and I bet out. He folds I take down the pot.

About 2 orbits later with the blinds 200/400, I'm on the button with Q9. There's one caller ahead of me and I make a loose position call. The SB folds and the BB checks his option. Flop comes 9-6-4 and the BB leads for out for 1200. The limper folds and I re-raise to 3000. He calls and the turn is a J. He checks and I check behind. The turn is a 2 and he checks. I know I'm missing a bet, but I check and show top pair. He shows 5-7 for a missed open-ended straight draw and I'm in good shape.

With blinds at 300/600, A short stack guy in seat 7 makes the announcement that he has to make a move soon and lucky for me he pushes for about 5000 in my BB. It's folded to me and I look at my first card. An 8. I tell him it doesn't look good for me and I check the second card. Another 8. I call and he shows AJ. The picture card on the flop is the J (OF COURSE) but to my surprise, the 8 is right behind. My set of 8s hold up and I win another big pot.

We're down to 5 tables and Stewman tells me he's out. We have a last-longer bet and I'm now the beneficiary of a free dinner. Thanks, Stewman!

Down to 3 tables and I'm getting short on chips. I guy is crippled when he moves all in with 33 vs 55 and K10. There's a 10 on the flop and the guy loses all but 4000 chips. Blinds are 1000/2000 and he pushes all in on the next hand. I look down at A9 and call. He shows Q2, never improves and I get a little more chips.

Over the next 40 minutes I play extremely conservative, folding 22 in MP with no callers before me and laying down AQ to a raise and re-raise pre-flop. With blinds at 1500/3000 I'm in the BB and UTG min-raises to 6000. It's folded to me and I see I have AK. I have about 17000 total, so I push for the rest and announce "All-in."

I say to him, "Hey there's no shame in folding here... that's almost the rest of your chips to call. I have the best hand... you don't want to go out 7 before the money, do you?"

He calls.

He shows AQ.

Other players are already congratulating me.

I know I'm the big favorite (72% to win). I yell out, "Can the best hand PLEASE hold up?? Common.. ONE TIME!!"

The flop brings a Q and I'm out. In 17th.

With Stewman as my witness, I again go deep into a big MTT tourney and lose to a suckout after getting all my money in as an overwhelming favorite.

I'm not going to even bother blogging about the ring game we sat down in a couple hours later... Let me just say that in the course of about 90 minutes, Stewman's AA was cracked by BOTH Q9 and 2-4. My flopped two pair was beat by river trips and my A10 (with a preflop raise in a killpot) was sucked out by A8.

I hate poker.

Tired and Delerious from Razz

So yesterday I decided to play the 9:30pm Razz free roll on PS not thinking much of it as I had played many other free rolls that day and busted within or soon after the first break. Well this event had 4568 players and I ended up finishing 2nd after playing for over 7 hours. I finally quit at 4:54am. I qualified for some other free roll that I probably won't play. When it got down to 3, one guy quit and me and the other guy battled for almost an hour swapping the lead multiple times before I threw in the towel because I had to get up in less than 2 hours and needed some sleep. The blinds stopped increasing at 50k/100k. They should have kept going higher. We might have truly finished.

Big thanks and props to my Yoda like instructor NBA. At times I felt like he was using the force and guiding the mouse clicks. Thanks for your support and teachings oh wise one. I would write more but I'm very tired and my break in class is over.

So Fresh and So Clean!!

Okay, okay... so I realize it's only a $5 buy-in and there was only a 5 table SNG, but still... it feels good to win.

Poker after dark episode 2

All I got to say is can this weeks episodes be over. Besides Huck and Gus playing some poker the other players are so annoying. Sean and Phil going at it, Annie yapping away and Steve Z. thinking he is the equivalent to poker's Buddha are driving me f'ing nuts. Simple solution would be to turn it off right...I'm a degenerate for a reason.

One hand that was ridonkulous:

Folded to Phil in the sb who has QQ and he just calls. Sheiky checks with 6c3c. Flop comes854 with 2 clubs. Check check on the flop. Turn is a rag and Phil bets and Sheiky calls. River is 2c and Phil bets I think around $1200 and Sheiky raises to 4k and Phil calls and gets pissed off that he lost. He played this hand so poorly.

One thing I found out is that FTP is one of the sponsors which clears up my initial impression of the shows intro. It is practically a FTP commercial with Jesus, Ivey, Lederer, Harman, and Hansen walking through the casino floor. Hellmuth is the only non-FTP player. The funny thing is that I know who won the whole thing and it wasn't a FTP player.

Like to give my boy NBA a loud shout out for cashing in a razz tourney last night making a whopping $.87 profit for finishing 28th. If it wasn't for 2 sick beats, he would have been top 10 in chips and in good position.

I'm shaving my balls

Doesn't DN have something better to blog about?

Hmmmm...

Review of Poker After Dark

Early Tuesday morning premiered the first episode of NBC's Poker After. My first impressions were not great. I'll divide my comments into pros's and con's

Pros's
1. Shana Hiatt still looks great.
2. Show runs daily so more poker to watch for junkies like me.
3. Since running daily they air a ton of hands.
4. We get to hear table banter
5. Top talent secured for the event
6. Structure seems good with players starting with 20k in chips and blinds at 100/200. This should provide for some play unlike Fox Sports Poker Superstars event which is a ridiculous all-in fest.

Con's
1. Lack of poker commentating: Contrary to some I do like to hear "expert" commentary to some degree. I like the fact we can listen to the players but at least with this first group, the banter got to be very annoying. Also to the casual poker fan, they may not understand all the inside talk between the players. I understood most of it since I am a degenerate.
2. Completely boring imo. Maybe due to the blinds being low and no big pots played yet but the show lacked any sort of excitement. I don't need all-ins but some great poker playing would have been appreciated.
3. The inclusion of Sean "Sheiky" Sheikan: This guy is not a superstar and if it wasn't for a great 2005 WSOP ME finish, no one would know who he is. He bombed on GSN's High Stakes Poker and his game and record is not that spectacular at least in tournament play. Aside from this he is a total tool or at least comes across that way. You can say what you want about Matusow and Hellmuth and I'd probably agree with you but Sheikan is just a plain jerk imo while those other two are just immature blowhards.
4. Maybe due to every channel having poker on these days but this event so far just seems contrived and fake. Feels like players are just there to promote there on-line websites and be on tv instead of actually wanting to play serious poker.

I know this is just the first episode but these are my initial impressions. Of course it won't stop me from watching but they need to do something or I believe their ratings won't be great. Now being at 2:00am, you don't need good ratings and this probably costs next to nothing to produce for NBC but they can do a better job. Truthfully, the only brightspot for me in the first episode was seeing Gus Hansen play. I seriously could watch that guy play poker all day long.

It's hard playing Omaha and Razz at the same time

So my free roll whoring continued today with a Limit Omaha Hi free roll and a razz free roll. I played well in Omaha but then got short stacked and got all the chips preflop in a capped pot (blinds 800-1600) with AK66. Got no help and finished 410 out of 6567 players. I started a razz free roll about 2 hours into the Omaha event and I busted out early in that. I sat out most of it concentrating on OH and then when I busted out of that my first hand in razz I won a nice pot but then lost 2 pots in a row with blinds at 60/120 and 8 ante and bring in of 18Ii believe. I had 6532A and my opponent had 6432A. this hand crippled me. 3rd nuts no good. Now about to play a nl holdem free roll. I still hate multi tabling and trying to play 2 different games at once makes it even worse.
